Step into the Divaville Lounge on Sunday, April 25 from 2-4 p.m. as we pay tribute to Ella Fitzgerald! Fitzgerald was one of the greatest singers of the twentieth century. Her range spanned three octaves and her clarity of tone was unmatched. Ira Gershwin once said "I never knew how good our songs were until I heard Ella Fitzgerald sing them." In a career that spanned six decades she recorded over 200 albums, won 14 Grammys, and was awarded the National Medal of Art by President Ronald Reagan, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George H.W. Bush. We'll hear her earliest recordings with the Chick Webb orchestra, selections from her groundbreaking Songbook series, her collaborations with legendary bandleaders like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie, and even hear her shatter a glass for Memorex. Tune in for an afternoon of incomparable jazz singing by Ella, First Lady of Song.
