Our State Fair
On Sunday, October 16 the Divaville Lounge goes to the fair! If it's October it must be time for the North Carolina State Fair, and we'll mark the occasion with songs about livestock, crafts, carnival rides, and of course, songs from the musical State Fair. One O'Clock Jump
Step into the Divaville Lounge on Sunday, August 21 as we pay tribute to Count Basie! Born on this day in 1904, William "Count" Basie was a jazz pianist, bandleader and composer whose career spanned six decades. We'll hear his earliest recordings with the Bennie Moten Orchestra, his seminal Decca recordings in the late 1930s, live performances at Birdland, and his work with singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett, Bing Crosby and Sammy Davis Jr. Divaville Lounge will be "jumping at the woodside," so tune in for two hours of Basie!

One of the most important popular composers in American history, Gershwin sold his first song on Tin Pan Alley when he was only 17 years old and went on to write for Broadway, Hollywood, classical works, opera and ballet in a career that spanned just 20 short years before his untimely death in 1937. Tune in for two hours of the George Gershwin music that has come to define the Great American Songbook, performed by the greats and by Gershwin himself.

A Slick Chick (On the Mellow Side)
Step into the Divaville Lounge on Sunday, August 29 as we pay tribute to Dinah Washington! The "Queen of the Blues," Dinah began singing gospel music as a child, broke into the music business as the "girl singer" with Lionel Hampton's orchestra, and went on to become a master of jazz, blues and r&b singing. She was a tireless performer and created a massive body of work in a career that lasted less than twenty years before her untimely death at age 39. Several of her songs have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We'll hear Dinah's incredible songs from her early days with Lionel Hampton, to her collaborations with jazz greats like Max Roach, Clark Terry and Quincy Jones, and of course we'll hear her hits like "What a Diff'rence a Day Makes" and "Unforgettable." Tune in for two swinging hours with the Queen of the Blues!
